Establishment of the VR Lab at Island East Campus

The benefits of virtual reality (VR) in education has become a hot topic in the region.  In 2017, an innovative project named “Development of a Virtual Reality Laboratory with Multi-User Virtual Reality Content for Aviation Industry” was launched by HKU SPACE with support from the Quality Enhancement Support Scheme (QESS). This project aimed to showcase the possibilities and advantages of using VR in teaching and learning for the aviation industry.

The project consists of two major components:  1) three sets of multi-user VR applications; 2) a VR Lab equipped with four room-scale VR stations. For details of the project, please visit https://www.hkuspace.hku.hk/collection/vr-lab-project. We are pleased to announce that a state-of-the-art VR Lab has been in service at Island East Campus* since May 2020.

In the past few months, students from the Aviation, Marketing, E-Sports and Sports, and Exercise and Recreation Management programmes have made good use of this VR Lab facility.  Students gain innovative learning experience from the setup, which offers fascinating insights into how VR can be applied in various industries.

Programme teams are welcome to use the VR Lab in teaching and learning. If you are interested in knowing more about the VR Lab, please do not hesitate to contact us by filling the online request form: https://goo.gl/forms/2aGXAcCCfaZ9lXZj2.
